For a free day out that will entertain the whole family try the Manx Museum. As well as housing the traditional museum area outlining the island’s history and lots of interesting information surrounding the Vikings. Thanks to a modern extension the building is also home to a film theatre, the National Art Gallery and Manx National Heritage Library.
To find out more about local history try and fit in a visit to the House of Manannan. The building is made up of the old Peel Railway Station that’s had a multi-million pound extension built onto it. It now houses a series of interest exhibits including a replica Norse long ship and Celtic roundhouse.
For a trip back to the Victorian age take a trip to the Grove Rural Life Museum. Set in a house dating back to the 1800’s you’ll get to see what Victorian farm life was like. The rooms are all set out in Victorian style and kids will love meeting the animals that live on the farm.
Castletown at the southern end of the island is where the island’s original capital was. It is also the sight of Castle Rushen, a wonderfully well-preserved 13th century castle that treats visitors to magnificent views from the top of its tower.
For live entertainment on the island, get along to the Erin Arts Centre at Port Erin. The centre hosts plenty of performances throughout the year from drama and opera to modern music. They also have regular art exhibitions.
